Riding Technique — Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing
Riding technique is not one skill. Each discipline asks different questions of horse and rider, and each has its own archive here. This page is the map: one sentence on who each discipline suits, then the door to everything we have written about it.

Never sat on a horse?
This page is for choosing a discipline. If you are still looking for a first lesson, begin at the riding lessons hub instead — finding a club, what happens in that first hour, and the basics of the seat are all there.
Frequently asked questions
Which discipline should I start with?
Most clubs start everyone on general flatwork, and the choice only becomes real after a few months. Riders who enjoy precise, repeatable work usually gravitate to dressage; riders who want pace and a bit of adrenaline more often start jumping.
Do I need a different horse to change discipline?
Usually not. At training level most horses work happily across all three; specialisation tends to matter only once you are competing.
