Quidam de Revel was a bay stallion of the Selle Français breed that Prince Amaury de Broglie bred at Haras de Balleroy. His sire was Jalisco B, one of the greatest jumping stallions of the breed, and his dam was Dirka — a mare with an international competition record and daughter of the Thoroughbred Nankin. Standing about 167 centimeters high, Quidam de Revel was not striking in conformation, but his technique over fences, especially the precision and finesse of his footwork, soon became the talk of the horse world.

His competitive career began in the late 1980s alongside the French rider Hervé Godignon. In 1990, at the age of eight, Quidam de Revel won both the Nations Cup and the New York Grand Prix as well as the Grand Prix Dortmund, and in that one season alone earned more than one million francs in prize money — a stunning result for a horse so young.

1991 was a fruitful year for them: at the European Championships in La Baule they placed fourth as a team and sixth individually, won the Hickstead Nations Cup, finished second in Rotterdam, and placed fifth in the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The peak of Quidam de Revel's sporting life came at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Godignon and Quidam de Revel helped the French team win the team bronze medal and themselves finished fourth in the individual final — just short of an individual medal. That same year, the pair also won the Nations Cup and the Grand Prix of Rome.

Soon after Barcelona, Quidam de Revel was sold to the Velin family in Denmark and, alongside Thomas Velin, continued to compete at a high level until the end of his teenage years; including winning the Grand Prix Hannover in 1997 and competing at the European Senior Championships in Mannheim that same year. Finally, in 2001, at the unbelievable age of 19, after eleven straight years at the highest level of competition, he retired from the show ring.

But it was as a purebred stallion that Quidam de Revel became a true legend. He was approved in the KWPN, Selle Français, Belgian, German, Swedish and Danish studbooks, and is estimated to have left around 1,771 foals. In 2003 and 2004 he claimed the title of world number one stallion in the WBFSH ranking list for show jumping. At the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, ten horses by him took part in competition — more than the offspring of any other stallion. Among his most famous progeny are Nabab de Rêve, Dollar de la Pierre, Quantum, Quaprice Bois Margot, Quite Easy I, Guidam and Hurlevent de Brekka, and by 2021 around 165 of his descendants had competed at Grand Prix 1.60 m or higher.

Another sign of Quidam de Revel's unparalleled genetic value was that he became the first cloned warmblood stallion in history; the cloned foal Paris-Texas was born in 2005, and another clone named Quidam de Revel II Z was later used for the Zangersheide studbook. Quidam de Revel finally died in Denmark in early 2014 at the age of 32, leaving behind one of the most influential sire and dam lines in modern show jumping.
