Glamourdale was born on May 10, 2011, in Ouderkerk aan den IJssel, the Netherlands, at the breeding stable of a breeder named J.W. Rodenburg; a black colt with the bloodline that every dressage breeder dreams of. His sire is the Rheinländer stallion Lord Leatherdale, and his dam, the elite KWPN mare Thuja, is the daughter of the legendary stallion Negro; the same maternal line that makes Glamourdale, in terms of blood, close to the breeding family of a horse as exceptional as Valegro.

Signs of his talent appeared early. At the 2014 KWPN stallion inspection, Glamourdale was selected as champion stallion; a starting point that paved his way toward the competition arena. He quickly shone in young horse competitions and, in 2018, at the FEI World Young Dressage Horse Championship in Ermelo, the Netherlands, he and Charlotte Fry won the gold in the seven-year-old section with a score of 87.050%.

Glamourdale then, under the training of Anne van Olst and in the ownership of Anne and Gert-Jan van Olst of Van Olst Horses in Den Hout, moved step by step toward higher levels. In 2019, he won the Prix St Georges class at the CDIO Aachen competition with a score of 77.971%, and one year later, in 2020, he was named KWPN Horse of the Year; exactly at the same time as his entry into Grand Prix level.

The peak of this journey came at the 2022 FEI World Championship in Herning, Denmark. Fry and Glamourdale won two golds at that event: one in the Grand Prix Special and another in the Grand Prix Freestyle with a stunning score of 90.654%, a score that joined them to the rare “90 percent club” in FEI history. They also won team silver as part of the British team. A few months later, at the FEI Dressage World Cup at the London International Horse Show, Glamourdale set his personal best with a score of 90.995% in the Grand Prix Freestyle.

These successes propelled Fry and Glamourdale to the top of the FEI dressage world rankings in the first half of 2023; number one both for horse and rider, an uncommon occurrence in the FEI’s new separate ranking format.

The climax of this glorious journey came at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and in the dazzling setting of Château de Versailles; where Glamourdale and Fry earned individual Grand Prix Freestyle bronze with a score of 88.971% and also brought team bronze to the British team. A few months later, in December 2024, the pair returned to London and, despite placing third in the Grand Prix, won the Grand Prix Freestyle title with a score of 86.645% for the third time in London.

The 2025 season ended in commanding fashion for Glamourdale: at the FEI Dressage World Cup Final in Basel, Switzerland, he and Fry won both the Grand Prix (77.152%) and the Freestyle (88.195%), with unanimous votes from all five judges for first place in the Freestyle. Today, in addition to his impressive competition record, Glamourdale also serves as a breeding stallion at Van Olst Horses, and his offspring are highly sought after in the KWPN breeding market and international dressage; a legacy that continues both in the arena and in the next generations of this breed.
