In the heart of Spain, at the Equus Arabians breeding station, a gray foal was born whose name, Excalibur EA, was later inscribed on the highest peaks of the…

Excalibur EA was born in 2011 at the breeding station Equus Arabians, owned by Alberto Sorroca in Spain. His sire, Shanghai EA — who himself was a close contender for the Triple Crown in 2011 — and his dam, Essence of Marwan EA, daughter of the legendary three-time world champion stallion, Marwan Al Shaqab, gave him a pedigree that combined extreme type with a commanding presence.

His show career began early. At the 46th U.S. National Championship, in September 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Excalibur EA, still a yearling colt and prepared by trainer Ted Carson at Butler Farms Training Center, captured the title of U.S. National Yearling Colt Champion with a stunning performance; that same season he was also recognized as one of the national top ten young male foals and the runner-up in Sharjah in the yearling colt class.

But the defining year of Excalibur EA’s life was 2014. His breeder leased him to Estancia Las Rosas in Uruguay — owned by Princess Laetitia d'Aremberg and managed by Olivia Strauch, with training under Tom Schoukens — and this three-year-old stallion swept all three stages of the European Triple Crown of the Arabian Halter Championship in that single season. At the All Nations' Cup in Aachen, Germany, he stunned the judges with a score of 95.33 — the highest score ever recorded in the history of this event — and won gold in the young stallions class. Weeks later, at the European Championship in Moorsele, Belgium, he also took gold among young stallions, and finally, on 30 November 2014, at the World Arabian Horse Championship in Paris, France, he claimed the title of World Young Stallion Champion and became the 16th horse in history to complete the European Triple Crown. This victory also brought Uruguay its first World Arabian Horse Championship title, a landmark event in the history of South American Arabian horse breeding.

Excalibur EA proved he was not just a one-season star. In maturity, he returned to the show ring as well: gold in the mature stallions class at the 2017 European Championship in Verona, Italy — where he also placed first in the 4- to 6-year-old stallions class — gold in mature stallions at the 2017 Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship, silver in mature stallions at the Menton show in France that same year, and once again gold in the stallions 7- to 9-year-old class at the 2020 Dubai Arabian Horse Show. He also competed at Chantilly and in later years was seen as a mature stallion at major events in Europe and the Middle East.

Beyond the show ring, Excalibur EA became one of the most influential sires of the contemporary Arabian horse generation. His ownership and leasing passed among top stations around the world — including Akmal Stud and Al Ahliah Stud, and later Al Saqran Stud of Kuwait/UAE, which offered his frozen semen through Royal Arabians. Arabian breed databases have recorded hundreds of registered foals — more than 440 foals between 2014 and 2025 — in various countries under his name, including champions such as Exxalt, Alexxander, and Exxaltress. In this way, Excalibur EA left a dual legacy: a singular star of the show ring and a foundational line in contemporary Arabian horse breeding.
