Alex Alejandro | EKS Alihandro
Among purebred Arabian horses, few names have become as closely associated with the word “unrivaled” as EKS Alihandro; a bay foal born in South Africa in 2010…
EKS Alihandro was bred by Willie Brown, owner of Elkasun Arabians stud in South Africa; a chestnut colt by Marwan Al Shaqab, three-time World Champion and son of Gazal Al Shaqab and Little Liza Fame, and on the dam’s side a grandson of the “living legend” of the Arabian breed, Padrons Psyche, through his dam OFW Psylhouette, who traces back to Hafati Julianna and RSD Dark Victory to Bey Shah. This pedigree combination produced, from the very first days, a horse with a stunning presence in the show ring.
Alihandro’s championship journey began in 2011 in his native South Africa, where, in his first official appearance, he claimed the Gold Champion title in the Young Stallions class. This brilliant start opened the door to the major international tour; in 2012 he was also crowned Gold Champion Young Stallion at the Prague International B Show, and just a few months later at Aachen’s All Nations' Cup, one of Europe’s most prestigious events, he claimed the same title.
What set Alihandro apart from his contemporaries was his ability to repeat his victories on the most prestigious stages. In 2013 he once again won at Aachen’s All Nations' Cup and retained his title for a second consecutive year, a rare achievement in the global purebred Arabian tour. The peak of his youth came that same year at the World Arabian Horse Championship in Paris, where he unanimously earned the Gold World Champion title in the Colt class; a victory completed by triumphs at Menton and Dubai that same year, making him one of the most successful colts of his generation.
After a period away from the show ring, Alihandro returned in 2016, now as a mature stallion. In his first year back, he became the overall Gold Champion at Aachen’s All Nations' Cup and then at the World Arabian Horse Championship in Paris, at just six years old, once again unanimously claimed the Gold World Champion title in the Stallion class. Arabian Horse World magazine named him “Horse of the Year,” a title that cemented his place as one of the most outstanding halter stallions of his generation.
In the years after these victories, Alihandro stood at Athbah Stud, the Saudi breeding operation owned by Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and left behind a legacy as brilliant as his own record. His daughter Om El Erodite sold at the Scottsdale February auction for 1.55 million dollars, and another daughter, Rewayah Athbah, was the 2015 Gold World Champion in the Yearling Filly class; signs of this stallion’s ability to pass his quality to the next generation.
In December 2023, when many thought Alihandro’s competitive career was over, he returned at the age of thirteen to the World Arabian Horse Championship at Old Doha Port, Qatar. In a thrilling contest against a strong field of Platinum stallions, including Sundown KA, he once again commanded the show ring and won the Platinum World Champion title; his third world gold medal and a seal on a record that, up to that point, had never known defeat.
Today, EKS Alihandro, both as a three-time world champion and as a stallion whose legacy continues in his offspring, has taken his place among the icons of excellence in the world of purebred Arabian horse showing; a horse that brought together a combination of presence, elegance, and consistency in one being and continues in the stable to produce the next champions.
