Chaco-Blu | Chacco-Blue

چهار نعل: Chaco-Blu | Chacco-Blue

Chacco-Blue, a Mecklenburg chestnut stallion born on May 1, 1998, came from a Holstein lineage between Chambertin and Contender to become, without knowing it,…

Chacco-Blue was bred by Karl-Heinz Köpp and registered in the Mecklenburg studbook; a chestnut stallion whose sire was Chambertin, one of the leading Holsteiner stallions, and whose dam was Contara, a daughter of Contender and full sister to Hardrock Z and Happy Days Z. His maternal granddam, Godahra II, was also a half-bred mare descended from the Thoroughbred stallion Godavari; a genetic combination that from the very beginning promised power and technique.

In his early years, as a young colt, he placed highly in nearly thirty young-horse classes and was recognized as one of the best in his age group in the German Bundeschampionat circuit; in the 2004 qualifying final he went into the ring with a score of 9. 2, but after jumping the wrong fence in the final round, he missed the championship.

Chacco-Blue was stabled at Paul Schockemöhle’s yard in Mühlen and from 2007 to 2010 competed in Grand Prix classes under Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst; in 2008 he finished third in the Neustadt/Dosse Grand Prix, won the World Championships for registered stallions in Lanaken, and also took victory in the 1.60-meter class at Olympia in London. Two years later, in 2010, the pair also claimed the individual bronze medal at the German Championships; a period that ended with prize money of nearly 289,517 euros.

From the beginning of 2011, Paul Schockemöhle entrusted Chacco-Blue to Andreas Kreuzer, a young rider who had previously worked in the same stable as a groom. Kreuzer later said: “Everything happened step by step, and Chacco-Blue was the last piece of the puzzle” and “Chacco-Blue opened a door for me to a completely different world. ” The high point of this partnership came in the Rolex Grand Prix at the 2011 CHIO Aachen, where the pair finished third; the most notable result of Chacco-Blue’s competition career. Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst, who had known him for years, remembered him like this: “Chacco-Blue was truly a warrior; he always fought to the end. ” The following year, in 2012, Chacco-Blue and Kreuzer also won the Neumünster Grand Prix.

But only a few days after that victory, on the morning of Tuesday, June 5, 2012, Chacco-Blue suddenly weakened in his stall in Mühlen and died despite the veterinarians’ efforts. An autopsy at the Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine showed that the cause of death was borreliosis infection (Lyme disease). Kreuzer, who had not competed that day in Balve and was on the way back to Mühlen, heard of his death while still on the road; semen collection from him was also stopped immediately.

However, Chacco-Blue’s early death at the age of fourteen was not the end of the road, but the beginning of the greatest chapter of his life. He left behind nearly forty licensed stallions and around seven hundred registered mares in breeding. From 2017, he topped the WBFSH show jumping stallion rankings for the first time, succeeding Diamant de Semilly; a position he held without interruption until 2022, for six consecutive years. By the mid-2020s, nearly four thousand offspring had been registered from him, more than thirteen hundred of which competed up to Olympic and World Championship level; a figure that made him the most influential sire of the modern show jumping era. Even after his death, embryos and frozen doses of sperm left from him were sold at auctions for tens of thousands of euros, and several clones of his mother Contara were also produced, named Contara Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.

Among his offspring, Explosion W, ridden by Ben Maher, won the Olympic individual gold medal in Tokyo (2021); Chaqui Z with Shane Sweetnam, Chacco Kid with Eric Lamaze, and Calisto Blue with Daniel Deusser shone at the highest international level. Paul Schockemöhle, his owner, always emphasized one trait: “The best thing about him was his spirit; he always tried” — a quality that, according to breeders, has clearly been repeated in his progeny, along with exceptional front-leg technique.
